Dal Makhani

Cooking Time : 50 minutes

Serves : 4 


¾cup Sharp Foods Sabut Urad

2 tbsp Sharp Foods RajmaChitra
Salt to taste
3 tbsp Butter / Oil
1 tsp cumin seeds

2 green chillies
1-2 Cinnamon
1-2 cardamoms
2 finely chopped onions
1/2 tsp ginger-garlic  paste
1 tsp chilli powder
1/4 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
4 finely chopped tomatoes
1/2 cup fresh cream
2 tbsp chopped coriander
1 tbsp  cream for the garnish

  1. Wash and soak Sharp Foods whole urad and rajma overnight.
  2. Drain, add 3-4 cups of water, salt, turmeric powder and pressure cook for 7 whistles or till the dal is overcooked.
  3. Whisk till the dal is almost mashed and keep aside.
  4. For the tempering, heat butter in a deep pan and add cumin seeds.
  5. When the cumin seeds crackle, add the green chillies, cinnamon, cardamoms, and onions and sauté till the onions turn golden brown in colour.
  6. Add the ginger-garlic paste, chilli powder and tomatoes and cook over a medium flame till the mixture leaves oil.
  7. Add to dal, salt and approx 2 to 3 tbsp water if required and simmer for 10 to 15 minutes.
  8. Add the cream and simmer for 5-10  minutes.

Garnish with coriander and fresh cream., serve hot.
